Mr. Aku Sorainen has been serving as the Honorary Consul of Malta since 2003, making him one of the longest-serving members of the Honorary Consular Corps Estonia, which was established in 2008.

From Finland to Estonia: A Journey in Law and Diplomacy

Born and educated in Finland, Aku Sorainen became captivated by the Baltic States following their regained independence in 1991. His master's thesis at the University of Lapland on the business laws of the Baltic countries garnered significant attention, leading him to move to Estonia in 1993 to practice law. In 1995, he founded Sorainen, a law firm that has since grown to include 44 partners and over 250 lawyers across four countries.

Professional Milestones: Building and Leading

Aku considers his most significant achievement to be the creation of a fully integrated law firm from the ground up. While he currently focuses on the firm's strategic development, he continues to offer his expertise in mergers & acquisitions (M&A) and real estate transactions. His contributions have earned him the title of "eminent practitioner" in Chambers Global.

Civic Engagement and Honors

Beyond his professional life, Aku has been an active member of society. He served on the Supervisory Board of Tartu University from 2010 to 2015 and was co-chairman of the Law Firm Management Committee at the International Bar Association in 2015 and 2016. He also supports the social enterprise Noored Kooli (TeachFirst). In recognition of his efforts, he received the Knight’s Cross, First Class, of the Order of the Lion of Finland in 2015.
